Theodor Dreyer

Carl Theodor Dreyer
b. February 3, 1889, Copenhagen, Denmark.
d. March 20, 1968, Copenhagen, Denmark.

Dreyer expressed his reluctant use of a conventional representation of Jesus in lieu of his own artistic ideas of depicting a "large and realistic" Christ figure as a rebuttal to criticism from Kristeligt Dagblad, a weekly publication that reflected the opinions of the Danish State Church, which had objected to his use of an actor to portray Jesus.
